Discover Marbella – A Traveler’s Guide to Spain’s Coastal Gem

Marbella had been waiting for its turn to be explored, and finally, in the summer of 2024, it happened—albeit briefly. We visited Marbella during our 5-day trip through Andalusia, which meant our time there was quite limited. However, I take that as motivation to return and explore more thoroughly. If you’re planning a visit, I recommend spending at least a full day to truly enjoy the city. While there aren’t many major tourist attractions, strolling through its charming streets is an experience in itself. And if you have more time, Marbella is vibrant enough to keep you entertained for several days.

1. How to Get to Marbella

The nearest airport to Marbella is in Málaga, which has direct flights from Bucharest via WizzAir. From the airport, you can either rent a car or take the direct Avanza L-607 bus, available right outside the arrivals terminal. Ticket prices range from €6 to €10, and the journey takes about 40-50 minutes.

There are also direct flights from Romania to Seville, from where Marbella is a 2-3 hour drive or bus ride. ALSA buses run from Seville to Marbella, with the starting point at “Estación de Autobuses Plaza de Armas.” Tickets are priced between €15 and €25.

2. Where to Stay in Marbella

Marbella is packed with luxury hotels, many of which boast private beaches, and are mostly located near the sea. Despite being a relatively small resort town, you’ll always be close to the action no matter where you stay. Ideally, choose accommodation close to either the beach or the Old Town for easy access to everything.

3. Best Time to Visit Marbella

I visited Marbella in June, and I wouldn’t recommend visiting during the peak of summer due to the extreme heat. The best times to visit Marbella—and Andalusia in general—are in spring (April-May) or early fall (September-October) when the weather is more pleasant.
