When it comes to my travel addiction, the most frequently asked question is about the tickets price. Almost no one asks me about accommodation, food and other apparently useless details. That’s because plane tickets prices tend to oscilate all the time. That being said, I’ve decided to share with you some tips&tricks that I’ve personally tested.
Cuprins:
Toggle1. Don’t wait for “last minute” plane tickets
Think in advance where you’d like to go on vacation. You can take as reference a month, a season or you can even think about some specific timeframes when you’ll be available. If you’re flexible enough, you can chose your vacation dates depending on the days when the tickets are the cheapest.
2. How far in advance you should buy plane tickets
3. How to book cheap flights
- Check the prices directly on the airline website or application
- Use travel fare search engines (such as: Momondo, Skyscaner, Kayak)
If you are unaware of which airline operates in the country you chose, then you should use travel search aggregators, which will search for you the best flights. In theory, it sounds perfect, but in practice, you’ll most likely get higher prices due to affiliate commissions. That’s why I always book flights directly on the airline website. And the price is not the only issue, especially during Covid times when there are a lot of cancelled flights. Basically, these aggregators are a connection you and the airline, which makes it even harder, if not impossible, for you to recover any money in case of delays or cancellations.
4. What to avoid when booking flights
Avoid searching for the flight too many times before actually buying it. If the engine detects a high interest for a specific flight, then the price will instantly get higher.
5. Travel with hand luggage only
When it comes to low cost airlines, the checked luggage is almost twice as expensive as the tickets. I use to travel with hand or cabin luggage only most of the time, which saves me a lot of money. While the hand luggage is free, for the cabin luggage you’ll have to pay a small tax, but it surely won’t be as high as the checked luggage one.
I hope these tips & tricks will save you some money, and will motivate you to travel more 🥰. Enjoy your trips!
