Hence, Palma de Mallorca and the Balearic Islands, in general, have quickly climbed to the top of my favorites. It’s hard not to fall in love with these places. They have a unique charm and a holiday vibe that does not go unnoticed.
Palma de Mallorca is the capital of the Balearic Islands, the most precious Spanish jewels when it comes to tourism. Along with Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, Mallorca ensures that visitors leave with a lasting impression of the Balearic Islands, with a promise to fascinate them just as much on their next visit. I’ve visited Mallorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, and I must say that I loved all of them equally. It would be difficult to decide which one I’d like to return to because none of these locations made me feel like I wouldn’t want to come back.

How to Get to Palma de Mallorca
There are direct flights from major European cities to Palma de Mallorca, with airlines such as Wizz Air and Ryanair. The flight duration is approximately 3 hours.
Getting from the Airport to Palma de Mallorca
The cheapest and most convenient way is to take bus A1, which you can find right at the arrivals terminal. The fare is €5, and the journey takes 15-20 minutes.
Accommodation in Palma de Mallorca
In my opinion, the best place to stay in Palma de Mallorca is in the old town. This is because Mallorca is not ideal for a city break. Most tourists do not spend their entire vacation just in Palma de Mallorca; instead, they explore different parts of the island, with the capital often reserved for one or two days in transit. Therefore, it is advisable to be as close to the center of the action as possible.
On the other hand, if you have more days at your disposal but do not want to visit other areas of the island and plan to spend your entire vacation in Palma de Mallorca, you could even split your stay between the old town and a location near a beach.

When to Visit Palma de Mallorca
Mallorca is not an island I would visit in winter, even though winters there are quite mild. Therefore, I do not recommend this destination in the winter months, nor in the peak season, which is, of course, during the summer, from June to August. I visited Mallorca in July, and it was unbearably hot. It didn’t seem as crowded as other places in summer, but the heat was indeed a major discomfort. Therefore, my recommendation is to visit Mallorca in May or September, even October if you don’t necessarily want to sunbathe.
Getting Around in Palma de Mallorca
In Palma de Mallorca, you can get around both on foot and by public transport. There are buses that take you anywhere you need to go, both in the city and its surroundings. The entire island of Mallorca has an extremely well-developed public transport system, with access to all tourist spots, both in the capital and other areas.
Urban and interurban buses are operated by EMT, “Empresa Municipal de Transports,” and are easily recognizable by their colors. Urban buses are blue and green, while interurban ones are red and yellow.
For trips within the capital, Palma, the fare is €2 per ride, and for interurban bus trips, the fare varies depending on the destination and distance.

How Many Days Do You Need to Visit Palma de Mallorca
As mentioned, Palma de Mallorca is often included in the itinerary of a longer vacation on the island. Therefore, 2 days are sufficient to explore the capital. If you want to discover the island of Mallorca in more detail and not just the capital, you should reserve between 5 and 7 days for this.
What to Visit in Palma de Mallorca
La Seu Cathedral
Located near Parc de la Mar, La Seu Cathedral or Palma Cathedral, is one of the tallest cathedrals in Europe, impressing with its remarkable Gothic architecture. You can purchase tickets here.
Plaza Mayor
The central square in Palma de Mallorca, around which you will find the Principal Theater of Palma, many museums such as the Fundació Joan March Museum, restaurants, and shops.
Passeig des Born
The main boulevard, along which you will find famous shops, terraces, and restaurants.
Almudaina Palace
The residence of the king and queen when they visit Palma de Mallorca. You can visit it for €7 or for free if you go on Wednesday or Sunday from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Castell de Bellver
This Gothic-style castle offers one of the most enchanting panoramas over the island of Mallorca and can be visited for €4.
Pueblo Español de Mallorca
A tour in Pueblo Español will reveal some Spanish traditions, history, and culture, and the ticket price is €10. You can purchase tickets here.

Jardines de Alfabia

Is Mallorca a Suitable Destination for Families with Children?
The island of Mallorca is family-friendly and one of the most sought-after holiday destinations in Europe for families with children. If we talk about the capital, Palma de Mallorca, it ranks among the top places in Mallorca suitable for children due to the variety of activities you can do: theater, museums, aquarium, etc. For the beach, the most suitable areas are Alcudia, Pollença, or Santa Posa.
