A vacation in Ibiza immediately conjures images of world-famous clubs and exclusive parties. It’s no wonder that many tourists visit Ibiza for this reason alone. Known as the paradise of entertainment, Ibiza hosts some of the most extravagant parties with renowned DJs spinning tracks for an international crowd. However, this level of excitement comes with a price, making Ibiza a relatively expensive destination.
Ibiza is part of the Balearic Islands group, alongside Mallorca, Menorca, and Formentera. My journey began with a desire to explore the beauty of these islands, having previously visited Mallorca. My ultimate goal was to experience Formentera, famed for its stunning beaches in various travel guides. Hence, a vacation in Ibiza isn’t solely about clubs and all-night parties. For me, Ibiza reaffirmed Spain’s endless charm and beauty.
Comparing Mallorca and Ibiza is challenging because, despite their similarities as part of the same island group, the atmosphere differs significantly. Mallorca offers more activities and generally lower prices than Ibiza, but both have unique appeals.
1. How to Get to Ibiza
When planning a vacation to Ibiza, note that there are no direct flights from many European countries. I traveled via a combination of Ryanair flights. My outbound journey was from Bucharest to Brussels and then Brussels to Ibiza. For the return, it was Ibiza to Bergamo and then Bergamo to Bucharest. However, I wouldn’t recommend using Ryanair unless you find a very low fare, as multiple flight segments increase the risk of cancellations or delays. For a more reliable option, look for flights with layovers from airlines like Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, and Swiss, which offer connections to Ibiza with short layovers in Austria or Germany, starting at around €200.
a. Getting from the Airport to Ibiza Town
The airport is about 7km from the city, and you can reach Ibiza Town quickly and cheaply by taking the ALSA bus, line 10. The journey takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the time of day, and costs €3.60.
b. Getting from the Airport to San Antonio
To reach San Antonio from the airport, take the ALSA bus, line 9. The journey takes 40 minutes and costs €3.60.
2. Accommodation in Ibiza
When it comes to accommodation in Ibiza, the top recommended areas are San Antonio, Ibiza Town, and Santa Eularia. I considered all three options and ultimately chose San Antonio for its proximity to the beaches I wanted to visit and the affordable prices. San Antonio is known for attracting young, party-oriented crowds, so it’s not the quietest area. I had no issues personally, but it’s worth noting. Santa Eularia is famous for luxury hotels and some of the most beautiful beaches, with prices to match.

3. Getting Around Ibiza
The best way to explore the island is by renting a car for a few days. However, if you’d rather not drive, the public transportation system in Ibiza is well-developed and makes accessing key tourist spots easy.
From June to September, most buses run every 30 minutes, and others hourly, from 7 AM to 11:30 PM. Check out the bus station map and schedule here. There are also night buses called “DiscoBus” running until 6 AM for club transport. Find the DiscoBus schedule here.
Always check the return bus times from your location to avoid missing the last bus of the day. Ticket prices vary by route and can be paid directly to the driver or purchased at main stations in San Antonio or Ibiza Town.
4. Best Time to Visit Ibiza
Ibiza’s summer season kicks off with the opening of major clubs in May and lasts until early October. The peak months are July and August, hosting most events, but these are also the hottest and most expensive times. For a slightly calmer atmosphere, visit Ibiza in June or the first half of September.
I don’t recommend visiting outside these months because the island’s charm lies in its beautiful beaches, which you should fully enjoy. I visited in late July, and while it was hot, it was manageable.
5. How Many Days are Enough for Ibiza?
Ibiza isn’t a large island, so you don’t need much time to explore it. I recommend spending 4 to 6 days in Ibiza, including a day trip to Formentera.
6. What to Visit in Ibiza
Ibiza isn’t about ticking off a list of tourist attractions. The most beautiful places are undoubtedly its stunning beaches. However, there are a few sights worth adding to your itinerary.
- Dalt Vila: The Old Town of Ibiza is a fabulous place to explore, blending modern cafes and restaurants with ancient culture in a setting of cobblestone streets and impressive fortifications.
- Es Vedra Island: A massive rock standing 382 meters above sea level, located off Cala d’Hort, visible from various points on the island.
- Torre des Savinar: Also known as Torre de Cap des Jueu, it’s the highest defense tower in Ibiza, located 200 meters above sea level.
- Punta d’es Moscarter Lighthouse: Located at the northernmost point of the island, requiring a short hike to reach.
- Formentera: Though not a tourist sight per se, a day trip from Ibiza to Formentera is a must.
- Cafe del Mar: One of the most famous cafes in the world, offering a breathtaking sunset view.
